We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to volunteer with us. This will be a great opportunity for you to immerse yourself in a new culture, to learn about the workings of a non-profit organization, and to deepen your knowledge of sustainable agriculture, childcare and education, or care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS (depending on the specific placement you’ve chosen). We’re so happy you’ll be joining us

This package is designed to be an introduction to the challenges and debates surrounding volunteer work in international development. Once you have read the articles included and worked through the issues presented in the above links, we believe you will be well equipped to avoid the common mistakes made by many international volunteers and to maximize your experience in Kenya. As with anything, what you will take from your time with us is directly linked to what you’re willing to put into it. If you approach this experience with an open mind, a willingness to think critically, and a desire to learn, we know this will be an incredible opportunity for you and for the team here at OLPS!

We suggest you allow yourself several weeks to work through the information in this package. Take the time to think about what you are reading and to develop or strengthen your opinions on these issues.

We can’t wait to meet you!

What we are doing

Despite the glaring challenges, OLPS continues to play significant roles in promoting prevention and control measures using the guidelines published by the MOH. With support from the government and other development partners, OLPS successfully mainstreamed Covid-19 prevention measures into the overall context of the Community Health Strategy.

Provided testing to 5000+ members of our community and linked 100+ individuals who tested positive for Covid 19 to various post-test services including oxygen therapy and home isolation.

Provided vaccination to 3000+ members of our community.

Prevention Measures

We work with government-accredited Community Health Volunteers and Social Workers/Case Managers to conduct household and community visits and deliver Covid-19 prevention measures at community/household level. We also work with the MOH to train our health personnel to conduct targeted rapid antigen test for Covid 19 members of the community suspected to have been exposed to Covid-19 infection.

Food & Nutrition

We also worked with private businesses to provide food and nutrition to households affected by the pandemic.

Responsive Efforts

We rely on government data as the primary source of information that guides our planning and delivery of covid-19 response efforts.

Resources & Planning

Print, social and visual media have also been important sources of information for planning purposes.

Over 400+ Graduates and Counting… OLPS’s Strongest Ambassadors and Greatest Accomplishment!

What it means to be an EFAC Alum

OLPS graduates’ stories are inspiring. Their families are forever changed and their communities are emboldened by the rise of one of their own. Over 60% of alumni have an internship or full-time are already supporting the education of a sibling or vulnerable child.  The success of our alumni demonstrates the power of education to place a child squarely on the path from poverty to prosperity, and the ripple effect this can have on a family, community, and nation.
